Warning lights.

Lit up:
  • Handbrake is applied. If you wish, release the handbrake.
    or
  • Do not drive on! Brake system fault.
    Seek professional help without delay.
    or
  • Do not drive on! Brake fluid level too low.
    Check brake fluid level.
If the ABS warning lamp lights up at the same time, this means:
  • ABS failure.
    Go to qualified workshop. The vehicle can be braked without ABS.
Lit up:
  • Handbrake is applied. If you wish, release the handbrake.

 

Lit up:
  • Needle position C – "Warning area":
    Do not drive on! Coolant temperature too high.
    Stop the vehicle as soon as it is possible and when safe to do so. Switch off the engine, allow it to cool down until the needle is back in the normal area. Check coolant level.
  • Needle position B – "Normal area":
    Coolant level too low.
    After the engine has cooled down, check the coolant level and refill cooland if the level is too low. If the warning lamp does not go out even though there is sufficient coolant, this indicates a cooling system problem.

  • Needle position "--":
    Do not drive on! Cooling system fault. Seek expert assistance.
  • Needle position A – "Cold area":
    Avoid high engine speeds and heavy engine loads. Wait until an adequate operating temperature has been reached.
Flashing:
  • Cooling system fault.
    Seek expert assistance.

 

Lit up:
  • Do not drive on! Cooling system fault.
    Seek professional help!
Flashing:
  • Do not drive on! Engine oil pressure too low.
    Switch off engine. Check the engine oil level. Do not drive on or allow the engine to run if the warning lamp is flashing even if the engine oil level is correct. The engine could otherwise be damaged. Seek expert assistance.

 

Lit up:
  • Do not drive on! At least one vehicle door is open or not properly closed.
    Open the appropriate vehicle door and then close it again.

 

Lit up:
  • Do not drive on! At least one vehicle door is open or not properly closed.

Flashing:
  • Electronic steering column lock fault.
    Do not drive on! Seek professional help.
Lit up or flashing:
  • Driver or front passenger seat belt not fastened.
    Fasten the seat belt.

 

Lit up:
  • Adaptive cruise control (ACC) speed reduction is insufficient with respect to a vehicle in front.
    Brake! Depress the brake pedal! The system tells the driver to take control.
Lit up:
  • Fault in the alternator.
    Go to a qualified workshop. Have the electrical system checked. Switch off any electrical consumers that are not required. The vehicle battery will not be charged by the alternator while the vehicle is in motion.
Flashing:
  • Do not drive on! 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox DSG® is overheating.
    Allow the gearbox to cool down with the selector lever in the position P. If the warning lamp does not go out, do not drive on. Seek professional assistance. Failure to do so can cause considerable damage to the gearbox.
Lit up:
  • Adaptive cruise control (ACC) not available.
    Switch off the engine and restart it while stationary. Inspect the radar sensor (for dirt, ice etc.). Go to a qualified workshop immediately and have the system checked if it is constantly unavailable.
Lit up:
  • The engine cannot be restarted! AdBlue® level is too low. Stop the vehicle in a suitable, flat location. Refill AdBlue® minimum quantity.
Lit up:
  • The engine cannot be restarted! Fault in the SCR system.
    Do not switch off the engine and go to a specialist workshop immediately. Have the system checked.
Lit up:
  • Brake! Collision warning from the front scan system (Front Assist).

If the ABS warning lamp lights up at the same time, with the 4X4 LOW four-wheel drive activated and the rear axle differential lock engaged, this means:
  • ABS and TCS/ESC switched off.
    Switch off rear axle differential lock (if required).
If the all-wheel drive warning lamp lights up at the same time, this means:
  • TCS deactivated.
    Switch off all-wheel drive (if required).
Flashing:
  • ESC or TCS is regulating the vehicle’s handling.
    Take your foot off the accelerator. Adapt driving style to the road conditions.
Lit up:
  • Central warning lamp.
    Heed additional information in the instrument cluster display.
Lit up:
  • TCS switched off manually.
    Switch on TCS: the TCS is switched on automatically by switching on and off the ignition.
If the ESC warning lamp lights up at the same time, it means:
  • ABS fault.
    Go to a qualified dealership. The vehicle can be braked without ABS.
If the warning lamp lights up at the same time, it means:
  • ABS not functioning.
    Go to a qualified dealership. The vehicle can be braked without ABS.
If the warning lamp is flashing, it means:
  • Trailer stabilisation controlled.
    Remote foot from accelerator pedal. If possible, do not turn the steering wheel.
Lit up:
  • TCS, BAS, ABS or dynamic parking brake auto release function fault.
    Go to a qualified dealership.
Lit up:
  • Rear fog light switched on.
Lit up:
  • Vehicle lighting not working partially or completely.
    Replace the appropriate bulb. If all of the bulbs are in working order, go to a qualified workshop.
Lit up:
  • There is a fault with  the exhaust.
    Have the engine checked by a qualified workshop.
Flashing:
  • Misfiring, which damages the catalytic converter.
    Remove your foot from accelerator pedal. Drive cautiously to the next qualified  dealership. Have the engine checked.
Lit up:
  • Preheating period for the diesel engine before starting.
Flashing:
  • Fault in engine management system (diesel engine).
    The engine should be checked by a qualified workshop as soon as possible.
Lit up:
  • Engine management system fault(Electronic Power Control).
    The engine should be checked by aqualified workshop as soon as possible.
Lit up:
  • Diesel particulate filter is saturated with soot.
    Drive in 4th gear (manual gearbox) or in selector lever position D (DSG® dual clutch gearbox) at a speed of at least 70 km/h (43 mph) for approximately 15 minutes. Observe the valid speed limits. Go to the nearest qualified workshop if the indicator lamp still does not go out. Diesel particulate filter contaminated with soot.
Only for  specially equipped courier vehicles:
  • Diesel particulate filter is being regenerated.
    If possible, do not switch off the engine. Observe the applicable regulations for switching off the engine in special traffic situations, e.g. at level crossings → . The indicator lamp switches off when the diesel particulate filter has been regenerated.
Lit up:
  • Electromechanical steering reduced or vehicle battery was disconnected and then reconnected.
Flashing:
  • Steering column exposed to tension or steering column not unlocked/locked.
Lit up, with text message if applicable:
  • Flat tyre! The pressure of at least one tyre is below 1.4 bar (20 psi/140 kPa) or critical tyre pressure loss.
    Do not drive on! Reduce speed immediately! Stop the vehicle as soon as it is possible and when safe to do so. Do not undertake any extreme steering or braking manoeuvres. Check all tyres for external damage and foreign bodies and check the tyre pressure in all tyres. If you do not need to change a tyre immediately, you may drive slowly to the nearest qualified workshop.

  • Tyre pressure too low!: This warning indicates at least one tyre with critical tyre pressure.
    Check the tyre pressure immediately of all tyres immediately. If you do not need to change a tyre immediately, you may drive at reduced speed to the nearest qualified workshop.

  • Please check tyre pressures. The warning indicates at least one tyre with reduced tyre pressure.
    Check the tyre pressure on all tyres at the next opportunity. Until you are able to make the correction, avoid long distances and maximum speeds.
Flashing:
  • Symbol flashes intermittently while the vehicle is in motion. There is a transmission fault between the sensor and the system. The function can be affected temporarily if there is more than one transmitter in the direct vicinity working on the same frequency (e.g. twoway radio, emote control or toys).
    If necessary, switch off or avoid source of interference.

    or

  • System malfunction. Indicator lamp flashes for around a minute and then lights continuously.
    If the typre pressure is correct, but the indicator lamp is still flashing and eventually lights up steadily after the ignition is switched off and back on again, please go to a qualified workshop. Have the system checked.
Lit up:
  • Washer fluid level too low.
    Fill up the washer fluid reservoir as soon as possible.
Lit up:
  • Fuel tank almost empty. Reserve is being consumed.
    Fill the tank as soon as possible.
Lit up:
  • Water in fuel (for vehicles with a diesel engine).
    Amarok: Switch off the engine and drain the diesel fuel filter.
    Caddy: Switch off the engine and seek professional help.
Lit up:
  • Both fuel tanks, petrol and natural gas, almost empty. Reserve quantity, red marking, being used.
    Fill up with fuel/natural gas as soon as possible.
Lit up:
  • Engine oil level too low.
    Switch off engine. Check engine oil level.
Flashing:
  • Engine oil system error.
    Go to a qualified workshop. The engine oil sensor should be checked.
Lit up:
  • AdBlue® level low.
    Refill AdBlue® before the kilometres displayed drop to zero.
Lit up:
  • SCR system faulty or not refilled using standard-compliant AdBlue®.
    Go to a qualified workshop immediately. Have the system checked.
Lit up:
  • Automatic engine speed control switched on.
Flashing:
  • The handbrake was released when automatic engine speed control was switched on.
    The vehicle has moved or the automatic engine speed control unit has malfunctioned.

Lit up:
  • Fault in Airbag and belt tensioner system.
    Go to a qualified workshop and have the system checked immediately.
Lit up:
  • Front passenger front airbag switched off.
    Check whether the airbag should stay scwitched off.

    or

  • Fault in airbag system.
    Go to a qualified workshop to have the system checked immediately.

 

Lit up:
  • Have the air filter replaced.
Lit up:
  • Electronic immobiliser active.
Lit up:
  • Rear axle differential lock switched on.
Flashing:
  • Rear axle differential lock is engaged or faulty and cannot be activated.
Lit up:
  • Four-wheel drive (4X4 LOW) is selected.
Flashing:
  • Four-wheel drive 4X4 HIGH or 4X4 LOW is currently being selected or switched off. Wait until the indicator lamp is lit up steadily (four-wheel drive is selected) or the indicator lamp has gone out (four-wheel drive is switched off).
Continuous flashing:
  • Fault in fourwheel drive low gear range (4X4 LOW).
    Seek expert assistance.
Lit up:
  • All-wheel drive (4X4 HIGH) switched on.
Flashing:
  • All-wheel drive (4X4 HIGH) or (4X4 LOW) is being switched on or switched off at that moment.
    Wait until the warning lamp stays permanently lit (all-wheel drive switched on) or goes out (all-wheel drive switched off).
Continuous flashing:
  • Fault with four-wheel drive (4X4 HIGH).
    Seek expert assistance.

Lit up:
  • Differential lock engaged.
Flashing:
  • Crafter: Differential lock switching on or off.
    Amarok: Differential lock is currently being engaged or opened.
    Wait until the warning lamp stays lit.
Lit up:
  • Fault in the factory-fitted tachograph.
    Observe the additional operating instructions for the tachograph. Go to a qualified workshop if necessary.
Lit up:
  • Adaptive cruise control (ACC) currently not available
    Switch off the engine and restart it while stationary. Inspect the radar sensor (for dirt, ice etc.). Go to a qualified workshop immediately and have the system checked if it is constantly unavailable.
Lit up:
  • Lane change assist system is currently not available.
Lit up:
  • Fog lights switched on.
Lit up:
  • Engine speed limited.
Lit up:
  • Fault with Rain/light sensor.
    Switch the ignition off and back on again. If the warning lamp lights up permanently again after switching on the ignition, seek expert assistance.

  • The lane departure warning (Lane Assist) is switched on but not active.

Flashing:
  • Lane being left.

  • Tow hitch ball head not locked.

  • Front passenger front airbag switched on
    No workaround – warning lamp will disappear itself around 60 seconds after switching on the ignition/after switching on the front passenger front airbag using the key-operated switch.

  • Area monitoring system (Front Assist) disabled.

  • Do not drive on! Fault with Gearbox.
    Allow gearbox to cool down with the selector lever in the position P. Do not drive on if the warning lamp does not go out. Seek expert assistance, otherwise serious gearbox damage could result.

    Switch the ignition off and back on again. If the warning lamp lights up permanently again after switching on the ignition, seek expert assistance.

  • Vehicle running on natural gas.
